R.I.P. Paul The Painter 1960 – 2011

A George & Pilgrims moment

Many who have stayed at Pilgrims over the past couple of winters will have met Paul who lived with us during the inclement months.

It is with great sorrow that we must tell you that Paul passed over just after midnight on 1st March.

Paul was a big part of our lives and a great friend who will be much missed. The good news is that we were with Paul when he died, he was not alone out on the Levels where his soul would normally reside.

For those who can make it there will be a funeral at St. John’s church on Friday 18th March at 2.00pm followed by a wake at the George and Pilgrims. The funeral will be open for all who knew him to speak or perform in his memory. Be warned however that it is likely to be standing room only so arrive early.

For those that cannot make it, an online memorial has been set up for Paul which you can access here. Please view and contribute.

Looking ahead, there will be a retrospective exhibition of Paul’s work at the Blue Cedar Gallery for a month from April 16th. The whole gallery has been given over to Paul and if you have a painting or drawing of him that you would like to include then please let us know. Additioanally we are loooking at cataloguing his work for a book of his paintings. Again please let us know if you have a painting or drawing or know of someone else who has – Paul was a prolific painter for over 30 years and so this will be quite a task.

This week we were involved in the making of a short video about Paul which is now available on here. ┬áPlease have a look and when you can, raise a glass and a prayer for one of life’s great gentlemen who touched so many of us.
